Give Learnomy access with Restrict Content Pro levels

Pro feature

Pro feature. Part of the Store and membership bridges module in Learnomy Pro.

Sell access as Restrict Content Pro (RCP) membership levels. While a member's membership on a level is active, they have the Learnomy access you picked on that level: one course or a bundle of courses, membership plans, learning paths, Spaces and cohorts. RCP keeps the money, the billing and the renewals. Learnomy only gives access.

Before you start#

  • Restrict Content Pro 3.0 or newer is active.
  • Turn on Store and membership bridges under Learnomy Settings > Modules. It is off until you turn it on, and with it on nothing happens until you map a level.

Pick what a level unlocks#

  1. Go to Restrict > Membership Levels and add a level, or edit one.
  2. Find the Learnomy access row in the form.
  3. Choose a kind of access (Course, Membership plan, Learning path, Space, Cohort), type a few letters of its name and pick it from the list. Repeat for each item.
  4. Save the level.

The picks show as chips grouped by kind, with a line saying what the level gives. If two picks give the same course (a course on its own and inside a membership plan, say), a note says so: the member gets that course once, and keeps it while either pick is active.

Only site administrators see the Learnomy access row. Someone who can manage levels in RCP but is not an administrator can still edit the level, but cannot change what it unlocks.

What happens with each membership#

In Restrict Content Pro In Learnomy
Membership becomes Active (after payment, a free level, or you add or activate it by hand) The member gets everything picked on the level. One "Your access is ready" email lists everything.
Pending or abandoned signup Nothing.
Activated again, or Renewed Nothing new. Each membership gives access once.
Cancelled Access stays until the membership's expiration date, as it does in RCP: cancelling only stops the renewals.
Expired Access from that membership ends. Access the member has from another membership, an order or anywhere else stays.
Renewed after it expired The access comes back.
Upgraded or downgraded to another level Access from the old level ends and the new level's access is given. A course both levels map stays.
Membership deleted Access from that membership ends.

A level with more than three items to give is handled in the background, a few seconds after the membership becomes active, so signup stays fast.

When a course is already for sale#

  • Sold at Learnomy's checkout (Stripe, PayPal): the course is saved on the level, and a note tells you members can now pay in two places.
  • Access granted externally with no link set: the course's button now links to your RCP registration page, so visitors go there to join. You can change the link in the course's pricing settings.

See what was given, and fix it#

Every grant from an RCP membership is listed in Learnomy Settings > Access Log with the membership number. Search by the member's email or the membership number. If access was refused, the row says why, for example a full Space or a course that was deleted. From there you can try again, give it anyway, or take an active grant back. Taking it back sticks for that membership, renewals included; a new membership gives it again.

If Restrict Content Pro is switched off#

Access already given stays. The Learnomy access row and the membership events stop until RCP is active again. If your RCP is older than 3.0, a note on the Learnomy dashboard, Modules and Plugins screens says the bridge is waiting for an update.

Instructor earnings#

A sale made through Restrict Content Pro is not a Learnomy sale, so it creates no commission for any instructor. Restrict Content Pro keeps the money and Learnomy only gives access. If you promise instructors a share of these sales, pay it from Restrict Content Pro. Sales made through Learnomy's own checkout do create commissions. See Commissions and Earnings.

Not in this version#

Memberships that were already active before you mapped a level do not give access. Give access from the student's profile, or renew the membership in RCP, for members who joined before the level was mapped.
