Elementor Theme Builder

Pro feature

Pro feature. Available in Learnomy Pro.

Design the course page in Elementor instead of picking one of Learnomy's built-in layouts. Learnomy adds a Single Course template type to Elementor's Theme Builder, a set of Learnomy widgets, and display conditions that can target all courses, the courses in a category, or one specific course.

Everything else about the course keeps working exactly as before: the URL, enrolment, drip rules, access checks, and progress. You are changing how the page looks, not what it does.

What you need

Widgets Elementor (free) is enough.
The Single Course template type Elementor Pro. The Theme Builder is a Pro feature, so without it you get the widgets but no template type.
Learnomy The Elementor Theme Builder module, at Learnomy Settings > Modules. Off by default.

How to use it

Step 1 -- turn the module on

Go to Learnomy Settings > Modules and switch on Elementor Theme Builder.

Step 2 -- create the template

Go to Templates > Theme Builder > Add New and choose Single Course. Elementor opens its editor with a preview of one of your published courses, so you are designing against real content rather than an empty canvas.

Step 3 -- build the page

Drag in Learnomy widgets from the Learnomy category in the widget panel. There are two kinds, and the difference matters.

The course page's own sections

These are the parts a course page is made of. Each one renders for the course being viewed and has no settings -- what it shows comes from the course itself, and how it looks is Elementor's job.

Widget What it shows
Course Header Title, category, rating, students, level, duration and the course image.
About This Course The course description.
What You Will Learn The learning outcomes.
Who This Is For The target audience.
Prerequisites The courses that must be completed first, linked.
Course Curriculum The full section and lesson tree, with drip locks, preview flags and completion ticks exactly as the normal course page shows them.
Meet Your Instructor The instructor panel: avatar, course and student counts, bio, profile link.
Intro Video The course trailer.
Price and Enroll Box The purchase card: price, any sale, what's included, and the enrol / buy / continue action.
Completion and Certificate The completion state and certificate link, for a student who has finished.

A section with nothing to show renders nothing. A course with no prerequisites simply has no Prerequisites block on the page -- you do not need a separate template for it.

Start with Course Curriculum and Price and Enroll Box. Those two are what a student came for.

Widgets for embedding Learnomy content

These are the same blocks you can use on any page or post, available here too. Each takes settings.

Widget What it shows
Course Card A catalog-style card for a course.
Enroll Button Just the enrol action, on its own.
Progress Bar How far a student is through a course.
Instructor Card A compact instructor card.
Lesson Content One specific lesson's content.
Quiz One specific quiz.
My Progress The signed-in student's progress across their courses.
Membership Pricing The membership plan pricing table.
Student Dashboard The student's dashboard.

Leave the Course setting at 0. On a Theme Builder template, 0 means "the course being viewed", which is what makes one template work for every course. Set an ID only to pin a widget to one specific course on purpose.

Step 4 -- choose which courses use it

Click Display Conditions and pick one:

  • All Courses -- every course page on the site.
  • In Category -- the courses in a category, and in any category beneath it.
  • One Course -- a single course, chosen by name.

More specific conditions win. A template set to one course beats a template set to its category, which beats a template set to all courses -- the same way Elementor's own conditions behave.

Step 5 -- publish

Publish the template, then open a course page on the front end.

Page Layout: with or without your theme

The Page Layout setting in Elementor's template settings is honoured:

Setting What the course page renders as
Default / Elementor Full Width Your theme's header and footer, with the Elementor design between them.
Elementor Canvas No theme header or footer. Just your design.

Do not lose the enrol button

This is the one thing worth checking twice. If your template has no way to enrol or buy, a visitor who wants your course has nowhere to click -- and nothing about that looks broken. The page loads, it looks good, and nobody joins.

Learnomy will not let that happen silently. If a published template offers the visitor no way to take the action they need, Learnomy adds its own price-and-button bar to the page. The bar shows exactly what the normal course page would have offered that visitor: Enroll, Buy, Sign up to buy, or Members only, correct for whether they are signed in and what they already have access to.

You will not see the bar if your template already contains the Enroll Button widget, or links to the enrol page some other way (an Elementor button pointed at it counts). Nothing is added for a student who is already enrolled, or for the course's own instructor.

If you built a course page deliberately without self-serve enrolment -- an enquiry form, say, or a course sold elsewhere -- a developer can switch the bar off:

add_filter( 'learnomy_pro_elementor_enrol_safety_net', '__return_false' );

When a course does not use your template

A course renders its Elementor template unless something more specific applies. In order:

  1. A layout set on the course itself wins. If you opened a course and set its Course template to Classic, Hero, Focused or Split, that course keeps that layout even when an Elementor template targets it. Clear that setting to hand the course back to Elementor.
  2. A matching Elementor template renders.
  3. Otherwise the course renders the layout chosen at Learnomy Settings > Layouts.

Turning it off

Nothing to clean up, in either direction.

  • Switch the module off. Every course goes back to its Learnomy layout immediately. Your Elementor templates are untouched, and switching the module back on brings them back exactly as they were.
  • Deactivate Elementor. Same result. The templates stay in your library waiting for Elementor to return.
  • Deactivate Elementor Pro but keep Elementor. The widgets still work inside pages and posts; the Single Course template type goes away with the Theme Builder, and courses render their Learnomy layout.

Learnomy stores nothing of its own here -- Elementor owns the templates and the conditions -- which is why there is never anything to migrate or repair.

For developers

  • learnomy_pro_elementor_enrol_safety_net -- filter. Return false to suppress the appended enrol bar. Receives ( bool $append, object $course, array $cta ).
  • The theme location is learnomy_single_course. do_location() returning false is what makes the fallback to a Learnomy layout automatic.
  • Widgets render through Learnomy's own code, never a copy of it. The section widgets include the same template partials the course page includes, given the same data by the same resolver; the embed widgets run the matching block's render callback. So a curriculum on an Elementor template applies the same drip locks and access rules as a curriculum anywhere else -- there is no second implementation that could disagree.
