Give Learnomy access with Paid Memberships Pro levels

Pro feature

Pro feature. Part of the Store and membership bridges module in Learnomy Pro.

Keep selling memberships with Paid Memberships Pro (PMPro). When someone gets a level, they get the Learnomy access you picked on that level: one course or a bundle of courses, membership plans, learning paths, Spaces and cohorts. PMPro keeps the money, the billing, the discount codes and the receipts. Learnomy only gives access.

Before you start#

  • Paid Memberships Pro 3.0 or newer is active.
  • Turn on Store and membership bridges under Learnomy Settings > Modules. It is off until you turn it on, and with it on nothing happens until you map a level.

Pick what a level unlocks#

  1. Go to Memberships > Settings > Levels and edit a level.
  2. Find the Learnomy access section, under Expiration Settings.
  3. Choose a kind of access (Course, Membership plan, Learning path, Space, Cohort), type a few letters of its name and pick it from the list. Repeat for each item.
  4. Click Save Level.

The picks show as chips grouped by kind, with a line saying what the level gives. If two picks give the same course (a course on its own and inside a membership plan, say), a note says so: the member gets that course once, and keeps it while either pick is active.

Only site administrators see the Learnomy access section. Other people who can edit levels (a Membership Manager, for example) can still save the level, and the mapping stays as it was. Copying a level copies its Learnomy access too.

What happens with each membership#

In Paid Memberships Pro In Learnomy
A member gets the level (checkout, or you give it on their profile) The member gets everything picked on the level. One "Your access is ready" email lists everything.
The member checks out for the same level again (a renewal) Nothing new while access is on. If a refund had ended it, the renewal gives it back. An access you removed in the Access Log stays removed.
A recurring payment goes through, or fails Nothing changes while access is on; PMPro handles retries. A recurring payment for a level the member still holds gives back access a refund had ended.
The member moves to another level Access from the old level ends and the new level's access is given. A course both levels give stays.
The level is cancelled, expires, or you remove it Access from that level ends when PMPro ends the level. If your PMPro setup keeps a cancelled level until the paid period runs out, Learnomy access lasts until then too. Access the member has from another level or anywhere else stays.
A payment for the level is refunded Access follows the level: it ends once the member no longer holds the level in PMPro. If PMPro keeps the level after the refund, access stays; cancel the level in PMPro to end both.

A level with more than three items to give is handled in the background, a few seconds after checkout, so checkout stays fast.

When a course is already for sale#

  • Sold at Learnomy's checkout (Stripe, PayPal): the course is saved on the level, and a note tells you members can now pay in two places.
  • Access granted externally with no link set: the course's button now links to the level's checkout page, so visitors join through PMPro. You can change the link in the course's pricing settings.

See what was given, and fix it#

Every grant from a level is listed in Learnomy Settings > Access Log, with the level. Search by the member's email. If access was refused, the row says why, for example a full Space or a course that was deleted. From there you can try again, give it anyway, or take an active grant back. Taking it back sticks while the member keeps that membership, renewals included; if they cancel and join again later, the new membership gives it again.

If Paid Memberships Pro is switched off#

Access already given stays. The Learnomy access section and the membership events stop until PMPro is active again. If your PMPro is older than 3.0, a note on the Learnomy dashboard, Modules and Plugins screens says the bridge is waiting for an update.

Instructor earnings#

A sale made through Paid Memberships Pro is not a Learnomy sale, so it creates no commission for any instructor. Paid Memberships Pro keeps the money and Learnomy only gives access. If you promise instructors a share of these sales, pay it from Paid Memberships Pro. Sales made through Learnomy's own checkout do create commissions. See Commissions and Earnings.

Not in this version#

Members who had the level before you mapped it do not get access automatically. Give it from the student's profile, or remove and give the level again in PMPro.
