Give Learnomy access with MemberPress memberships
Integrations pro Pro featurePro feature. Part of the Store and membership bridges module in Learnomy Pro.
Keep selling memberships with MemberPress. When a payment for a membership completes, the member gets the Learnomy access you picked on that membership: one course or a bundle of courses, membership plans, learning paths, Spaces and cohorts. MemberPress keeps the money, the billing, the coupons and the receipts. Learnomy only gives access.
Before you start#
- MemberPress 1.11 or newer is active.
- Turn on Store and membership bridges under Learnomy Settings > Modules. It is off until you turn it on, and with it on nothing happens until you map a membership.
Pick what a membership unlocks#
- Go to MemberPress > Memberships and edit a membership.
- Find the Learnomy access box, under Product Options.
- Choose a kind of access (Course, Membership plan, Learning path, Space, Cohort), type a few letters of its name and pick it from the list. Repeat for each item.
- Click Update.
The picks show as chips grouped by kind, with a line saying what the membership gives. If two picks give the same course (a course on its own and inside a membership plan, say), a note says so: the member gets that course once, and keeps it while either pick is active.
Only site administrators see the Learnomy access box. Editors who can change memberships cannot change what they unlock.
What happens with each membership#
| In MemberPress | In Learnomy |
|---|---|
| A payment completes | The member gets everything picked on the membership. One "Your access is ready" email lists everything. |
| The same payment is processed again | Nothing new. Each payment gives access once. |
| A payment is pending or failed | Nothing is given. |
| A renewal payment for a subscription | Nothing new while access is on: it has no end date, so there is nothing to extend. If a refund ended it, the next paid renewal gives it back (MemberPress gives the member access again too). An access you removed in the Access Log stays removed. |
| A subscription period ends while the subscription is active or paused | Access stays. MemberPress handles retries and pauses. |
| The member moves to another membership in the same group (upgrade or downgrade) | Access from the old membership ends; the new one gives its own. A course both give stays. |
| A payment is refunded (by the gateway, or by you setting it to Refunded in MemberPress > Transactions), or a one-time membership expires | Access from that membership ends (a refunded renewal comes back with the next paid renewal, see above). Access the member has from another membership or anywhere else stays. |
| A subscription is cancelled (stopped by the member, the gateway, or you in MemberPress > Subscriptions) | Access stays until the paid period runs out, the same as in MemberPress, then ends. If no paid time is left, it ends at once. |
MemberPress reports an ended payment period about 12 hours after it ends, so Learnomy access that comes from a membership can last up to half a day longer than the membership's own pages. A refund ends it at once.
A membership with more than three items to give is handled in the background, a few seconds after the payment, so checkout stays fast.
A free trial gives access with the first paid payment, since MemberPress records no completed payment for the trial itself.
When a course is already for sale#
- Sold at Learnomy's checkout (Stripe, PayPal): the course is saved on the membership, and a note tells you members can now pay in two places.
- Access granted externally with no link set: the course's button now links to the membership's sign-up page, so visitors join through MemberPress. You can change the link in the course's pricing settings.
See what was given, and fix it#
Every grant from a membership is listed in Learnomy Settings > Access Log, with the membership. Search by the member's email. If access was refused, the row says why, for example a full Space or a course that was deleted. From there you can try again, give it anyway, or take an active grant back. Taking it back sticks for that subscription or payment, renewals included; a new purchase gives it again.
If MemberPress is switched off#
Access already given stays. The Learnomy access box and the membership events stop until MemberPress is active again. If your MemberPress is older than 1.11, a note on the Learnomy dashboard, Modules and Plugins screens says the bridge is waiting for an update.
Instructor earnings#
A sale made through MemberPress is not a Learnomy sale, so it creates no commission for any instructor. MemberPress keeps the money and Learnomy only gives access. If you promise instructors a share of these sales, pay it from MemberPress. Sales made through Learnomy's own checkout do create commissions. See Commissions and Earnings.
Not in this version#
Payments made before you mapped a membership do not give access. Give it from the student's profile for members who joined before the membership was mapped.
