How do you sell online courses? You need four things. A page that sells the course. A checkout that takes the money. A place where the student takes it. And a record of every sale. There are three places to get those four things. A marketplace, where you sell on their terms and the customers belong to them. A hosted course tool, which you rent for as long as you sell. Or your own website, where the price, the customers and the payments are yours. On a WordPress site it takes four steps. Set a price on the course. Connect your Stripe or PayPal account. The student pays at the checkout, and the course opens for them at once. Here is a course catalogue on a real site. Every course has its own page, with what a buyer wants to know. Once they have paid, the student is inside the course straight away. You can also sell a plan, which opens a whole group of courses for a monthly or yearly fee. The owner types the price on the course itself. There is no product to set up in a separate shop. Every sale lands in one list, and exports to a spreadsheet for the accounts. You are not limited to one price. Charge once for lifetime access, or once for a set number of days. Charge monthly or yearly. Or put several courses in a membership plan. Run a sale price with a start and an end date, hand out coupons, or give a first course away free. Payments run through Stripe and PayPal, and both are built in. You do not need a separate shop plugin to take a payment. And the plugin takes no fee from your sales. You pay your payment processor, and nothing more. If other teachers sell on your site, each one has a dashboard with their own revenue, their own students, and their earnings. You keep a share of every sale, and the split is tracked for you. A sale is only the start. The buyer gets lessons that save their progress, quizzes along the way, and a certificate at the end, which is the thing they show to other people. Side by side. A fee every month, or a free plugin on hosting you already pay for. Their checkout, or your own Stripe or PayPal account. The buyers on their list, or on yours. Their address, or your domain. Every course you sell on a rented platform adds buyers to a list you do not own. Start on your own site, and there is nothing to move later. Learnomy is the free course plugin for WordPress. Put your first course on sale from your own site this week. Get Learnomy. The link is below.
