Looking for a Udemy alternative, or sites like Udemy where you keep the students? This video shows the same marketplace model running on a WordPress site you own: your catalogue, your checkout, your student list and your own teachers.

Transcript

Looking for a Udemy alternative? Start with what Udemy is. It is a course marketplace. One site that sells the courses of many teachers, under its own name. Students buy from the marketplace. The marketplace takes the payment. And the teacher is paid a share. That works, and many teachers start there. But look at what you do not own. The students are customers of the marketplace, not yours. The payment goes to the marketplace first, and you receive your part afterwards. And your course sits on a page beside every rival course on the same subject. So here is the same model, on a WordPress site you own. Your catalogue, your checkout and your student list. And if you want them, your own team of teachers. The owner lists the courses and sets each price. Nobody else decides what your course is worth. Every sale is recorded on your own site, with the student and the amount. The plugin takes no fee from it. Teaching alone? One switch turns the site into a single teacher academy, and hides the marketplace screens. Turn it back on the day you invite a second teacher. Or go the other way, and run a marketplace of your own. Teachers apply on your site. You read each application, and approve the ones you want. Each sale is split between you and the teacher, at the share you set. And the teacher asks for a payout from a dashboard of their own. This is a teacher on that site. Her dashboard shows her courses, her students and her revenue. She can see every student on her courses, and how far each one has got. Her earnings page shows what she has earned, and one button asks the owner for a withdrawal. And she has a public page of her own, with her courses and the rating her students gave her. For the student, nothing is missing. Lessons, saved progress, and a button to mark each one complete. Finish the course and a certificate is issued. With BuddyNext on the same site, it shows on the member profile. Side by side. On a marketplace, the students are their customers. On your own site, they are your students. Their checkout, or your own payment account. A share kept on each sale, or only the card processing fee. One course among rivals, or your name on every page. Every student you win on a marketplace stays on the marketplace. The longer you wait, the bigger the list you do not own. Learnomy is the free course plugin for WordPress. Open your own course site this week, and keep the students you earn. Get Learnomy. The link is below.

I was impressed

I was impressed. I have been worked with many Wordpress Plugins over the past 14 years part time. I have learned that if the support is not prompt and effective it is a sign to move on. Tonight, WEBcom has impressed me and I will be hiring them for some more work in the future due to the FREE…
