What is a WordPress LMS, and how do you pick the best one for you? LMS stands for learning management system. On WordPress, it is a plugin that turns your site into an online school. It builds the courses, enrols and tracks the students, and takes the payment. There are many good plugins, and a list of names will not tell you which one fits. So run six checks on any plugin you try. Building a course. Quizzes. Student progress. Certificates. Payments. And room to grow. We will run them on one free plugin, on a real WordPress site. Check one. Can you build a course yourself, with sections and lessons in one screen? And is the price a field on the course, not a product in a separate shop? Check two. Quizzes. Open one as a student. Look for more than one kind of question, and a result that is saved to the account. Check three. Student progress. Every student should see how far they are, on every course they joined. Check four. Certificates. Finish a lesson as a student, and watch what happens at the end of the course. The certificate should be issued without any work from you. Here, a community plugin on the same site also shows it on her profile. Check five. Payments. Ask three questions. Is the checkout built in? Do you need a shop plugin before you can sell a course? And does anyone take a cut of the sale, apart from the payment processor? On this plugin, Stripe and PayPal are built in, the plugin takes no fee, and every sale lands in a ledger on your own site, beside your student list. Check six. Room to grow. Today you teach alone. Later you may add teachers, so look for a teacher dashboard with revenue on it. And a way for each teacher to ask for what they have earned. Or a company asks you to train its staff. So look for courses that are never sold in public, where you decide who gets in. Or you want one plan that opens a whole library of courses. So choose by checklist, not by name. A feature list on a sales page, or the feature tried by you. What other people needed, or what your school needs. Extra costs found later, or known on day one. Because switching after launch means moving every course and every student. Each month you teach on the wrong plugin makes that move bigger. Learnomy is the free course plugin for WordPress. Run the six checks on a free plugin this week. Get Learnomy. The link is below.
