Closer than most pairings
Thinkific is the nearest hosted match to Learnomy, so the useful question is what each side adds. Its own site lists a drag-and-drop course builder, SCORM and video import, live cohorts and self-paced courses, quizzes, assignments, certificates, learning paths with prerequisites, communities, branded phone apps and a checkout with payment plans, bundles, upsells and multi-currency pricing.
Learnomy matches much of the learning side. Quizzes with six question types and certificates with a public verification page are in Free. Assignments, learning paths, cohorts and SCORM are in Pro. The differences are that Learnomy has no ready-made phone app, no upsell screens and no community of its own, while it gives you a database you own and a plugin you can extend.
Building a course in each
In Learnomy you add the course in the admin area, choose its price and access, then arrange sections and lessons in the builder. Pro adds a front-end builder, so instructors can work without entering the admin area at all. Thinkific describes a hosted editor with no setup beyond signing up, and for a person who has never touched WordPress, that editor is the gentler start.
Fees, plans and instructors
Thinkific is often described as free to start with no transaction fees. Its own pricing page describes a free trial rather than a free plan, and says gateway fees vary by plan, so read it live before deciding. Whatever the plan, the picture on our side is simple: Learnomy takes no share, and you pay Stripe or PayPal directly.
If several people teach, Learnomy Free handles commissions per course or per instructor, with a withdrawal request flow and an earnings screen. Pro adds Stripe Connect, so an approved withdrawal becomes a Stripe transfer. Check thinkific.com for what its plans offer here before you assume parity.
Student records and the first week
Enrolments, progress, quiz attempts and orders are rows in your own database. Free exports students and transactions as CSV. WordPress’s personal data tools export or erase one person, and the plugin keeps your data on removal unless you ask it not to. On Thinkific the data sits with the vendor.
A Learnomy student pays, lands in an account area and opens lesson one in a full-screen player with a progress bar. Quizzes mark themselves, and a certificate with its own public page arrives at the end. Thinkific lists communities and a branded app on top of that, so a student there may have more places to go in week one. On Learnomy the course is the whole experience unless you add a community plugin.
Who should not switch
- You want the least technical start, with a polished editor and no hosting.
- You depend on branded mobile apps, which Thinkific lists on its own site.
- You use upsells, bundles or payment plans in the checkout every week.
- Your community lives inside the same product as your courses.
Moving across
Thinkific has no importer into Learnomy. Courses are rebuilt by hand, or scripted against the REST API or WP-CLI for a large catalogue.

- Rebuild one course with its quiz and certificate in Learnomy Free.
- Test a purchase on the test gateway.
- Bulk enrol students by pasted emails or CSV, then mark finishers complete.
